Welcome to my blog!

I recently decided to make a real full-time go at the consulting I’ve been doing on the side for the past year.

Actually, I have been doing freelance web development and marketing consulting work for a few years now. With an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, it’s probably no surprise that I’ve done some freelance web development jobs. In addition, three years ago I made the decision to attend business school. Last year I graduated with an MBA from one of the top 20 business schools in the US. I stayed in the US for almost a year afterwards, working mainly for a startup in the Silicon Valley area. I enjoyed working for this company. However, I was mostly working part-time for them. So a few months ago, I decided to return to Toronto, Canada to find full-time employment in a digital marketing or product management role.

I was lucky and pretty soon after returning to Toronto, I got an offer at a very cool digital marketing agency in another big Canadian city. However, for a number of reasons, I decided to decline it. I like working for companies. I like interacting with co-workers. I like learning from those smarter and more experienced than I am. I enjoy the camaraderie and I especially revel in the the environment at smaller, entrepreneurial companies. At the same time though, with both technical skills and in-depth business knowledge, I think that I can eke out good business working for myself. Marketer, Strategist, Web Developer – those are all hats I can wear. Therefore, about a month ago, I decided to focus more on consulting.

I was once again pretty lucky with that decision. Two weeks in I signed a nice three-month contract with a new client. And I’ve been getting leads for others since. So I must say that my business has started off well. Very very thankful!

The next step in developing my credibility is to start up a blog.

Part of the reason for starting this blog is to share my experiences, knowledge and insights from the industry to help others in similar fields.

However, there is another reason at play here…

Do you want to know the first thing experts tell us to ask ourselves when trying to discover our passions? The first thing they tell us is to figure out what we would do for free. For me, writing is one of the things I would do for free. I love writing! Having a blog will allow me to indulge in this passion of mine.

I’m looking forward to sharing what I know and to having interesting discussions with people who stumble upon this blog.
